Our Approach & The Relational Learning Framework

A Framework Built for Title I Schools

The Relational Learning (RL) framework is our signature approach to instruction—a comprehensive model that integrates academic rigor with character development and real-world application.

Core Principles:

  • Competency-Based Progression: Students advance based on mastery, not seat time
  • Transversal Learning: Content is integrated across disciplines through real-world themes
  • Character Integration: Every unit develops specific character traits alongside academic skills
  • Student Autonomy: Learners develop metacognition and self-direction
  • Cultural Responsiveness: Curriculum reflects and honors students’ identities and experiences

The RL Unit Design Process:

Every unit follows a structured progression through six phases:

  1. Remember: Activate prior knowledge and make connections
  2. Understand: Build foundational concepts and vocabulary
  3. Apply: Practice skills in guided contexts
  4. Research: Investigate complex questions with independence
  5. Relate: Connect learning to personal life and community
  6. Self-Assess: Reflect on growth and set next goals

Why It Works:

The RL framework succeeds in Title I settings because it addresses the whole child. It gives students voice and choice. It honors their backgrounds while building rigorous academic skills. And it provides clear structures that teachers can implement with fidelity while maintaining creativity.

Impact & Results

Proven Results in Title I Settings

Our work speaks for itself. Here’s what we’ve accomplished in partnership with schools:

Academic Growth

  • Consistent median growth percentile (MGP) scores above district and state averages
  • Significant gains in math and literacy proficiency for marginalized students
  • Improved performance on state assessments (CMAS) across grade levels

School Culture & Climate

  • Increased student sense of belonging and safety
  • Higher rates of family engagement in school activities
  • Reduced disciplinary incidents and improved attendance
  • Staff retention rates above district averages

Leadership Development

  • Principals and assistant principals demonstrate measurable growth on evaluation frameworks
  • Leadership teams build capacity to drive continuous improvement
  • Sustainable systems that outlast individual leaders

Innovation & Autonomy

  • Successfully designed and implemented innovation school plans
  • Secured waivers for curriculum, assessment, and scheduling flexibility
  • Built community support and stakeholder engagement for transformation

What Partners Say About the Impact

“The structured coaching and evaluation framework helped me grow more in one year than in my previous five years as a principal. The feedback was specific, evidence-based, and always focused on what would most benefit students.”

“The Relational Learning framework gave our teachers a common language and structure without being prescriptive. It elevated instruction across the board while honoring teacher expertise.”

Case Studies

The Challenge

A Title I middle school serving predominantly Latinx students was struggling with declining enrollment, low academic performance, and staff turnover. Traditional district systems weren’t meeting student needs.

Our Partnership

  • Developed a comprehensive innovation school plan with curriculum and assessment waivers
  • Implemented the Relational Learning framework with intensive teacher professional development
  • Established coaching cycles for the principal and leadership team
  • Built a competency-based grading system and personalized learning model
  • Created family engagement strategies including a food pantry and community partnerships

The Results

  • Student growth scores exceeded district averages
  • Enrollment stabilized and began trending upward
  • Teacher retention improved significantly
  • School became a model for innovation in the district
  • Strong community partnerships created wraparound supports for students and families

The Challenge

A new performance academy for elite athletes needed to compress academics into 2-3 hours daily while maintaining rigor and NCAA eligibility—all while launching in just 6 months.

Our Partnership

  • Adapted the Relational Learning framework for sport-contextualized, transversal units
  • Developed custom Moodle LMS with competency tracking dashboards
  • Created an AI curriculum generation tool (Beacon Bot) for rapid course development
  • Designed assessment systems and learning coach professional development
  • Supported accreditation pathway and school-of-record partnerships

The Innovation

This project showcases our ability to take proven frameworks and adapt them to unique contexts—demonstrating that personalized, competency-based learning can work for any student population when systems are thoughtfully designed.
